What is it?
It’s a triathlon… well, sort of. This “race” begins on the Boise River with a two mile float to the first transition where participants are required to trot (at a pace of his or her liking) a very short distance to a not-so-challenging trike course. The third leg requires teams of three to complete one lap each of the trike course in relay fashion. Awards & post-race party will immediately follow the event.
What is it for?
Challenged Athlete Foundation raises money that is given in grants to disabled athletes for training expenses, equipment, or travel. Matt Perkins, the creator of Tube, Trot, and Trike was a grant recipient of CAF when he was on the
US Disabled Ski Team. After retiring from ski racing, he got into triathlon as a way to stay in shape, and is now the reigning 3-time ITU Triathlon World Champion. He wanted to come up with an event that could raise money for CAF, and give back a little for all the organization had given to him during his ski career. This event was a great way to combine a fun time with friends, a float down the Boise River, Triathlon, and raise money for CAF which continues to help disabled athletes all over the world. Not to mention a rare opportunity to ride a tricycle without all the funny looks. Rehab Systems, Inc, a leading provider of orthotics and prosthetics in Southern Idaho is the title sponsor and covers all the expenses of the event so that every dollar raised from other sponsors, and participants goes directly to CAF.
